Understanding British Agriculture

Re-Connect

We have fallen out of touch with where our food comes from, despite large parts of it growing on our doorstep. Re-connect by learning about the every day lives of farmers both young and old, and the challenges they face.

Back British

British Farming has some of the highest quality standards in the world and is produced within hours or even minutes of our dining table. Yet it struggles to compete with cheaper imports. Back British by purchasing local, seasonal goods.

Protect the Environment

British Farmers have a duty of care over their land, including nature beyond their own crops and livestock. Strict rules also ensure the protection of the environment. However, farmers are having to face extreme weather conditions in order to feed the nation.

Our Mission

An Understanding of British Agriculture

As our world globalises and populations increase, the demand for food is explosive. At the heart of the food chain are farmers, from cocoa to tea, from chicken to sweetcorn, and from broccoli to barley, the every day items we enjoy tend to start life in the hands of a farmer.

Yet despite this, an understanding of where our food comes from, let alone that it may be growing on our doorstep, has become an afterthought in our hectic 21st-century society. British Agriculture is feeling the affects despite its importance in our daily lives.

These short but sweet articles seek to share the unwavering work of British Farmers whose products we know and love, and encourage others to share in our pride and commitment to British food.

Let's get thinking as we walk around the supermarket, drive through the countryside, eat our favourite British potatoes and #backbritishfarming

A Farmer's Daughter

A word from the author:

'Growing up on an arable farm I have seen the world from the eyes of nature. I have grown up to the smells of freshly harvested wheat in a barn, long nights on the tractor and working in the beautiful British countryside. But I have also witnessed the struggles of my parents completing hours of paper work, battling against the ever-changing environment and trying to keep afloat in a world where British food producers are frequently low in the pecking order despite their importance to our every day lives.

At the farm there is a feeling of frustration at being left behind by a society which eats off the land we look after each and every day, yet rarely realises or respects the work it takes to keep the shelves full. While there are some great supporters in our communities, the majority seem to take farmers for granted.

So, I decided to act with the aim to reconnect the consumer and the producer through a series of small but hopefully insightful articles showing what farming is like from the inside and explaining key concepts. In doing so I hope to gain greater support from the public for our farmers, whether that be buying British or supporting their local agricultural industry as it tries to make its way through the modern world.

I would like to be a farmer one day in a world where products from our doorstep are appreciated and supported, not just for our industry but for the sake of the very environment in which we all live.'
